Professor Zong-Guo Xia’s teaching and research interests include computer & analytical cartography, remote sensing, digital image processing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and their applications in environmental modeling, natural resources management, urban & regional planning, and policy analysis.

Additional Information

Professor Zong-Guo Xia was a Co-Director of the Joint Center for GIS and Spatial Analysis at the University of Cincinnati from 1990 to 1993 and the Director of the Program in Geographic Information Technologies at the University of Massachusetts Boston from 1993 to 2003. He was the Chairman of the Department of Environmental, Geographic & Geological Sciences and then the founding Vice President in Information Technology/Chief Information Officer at Lehman College. He became the Associate Provost for Graduate Studies at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2008, and was the Vice Provost for Research & Strategic Initiatives and Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston from 2009 to 2017. He served as the Chair of the Faculty Council of the University of Massachusetts Boston from 2022 to 2024.
