    Dr. Jorge Fernando Flores Troya

    His talk entitled “Afro-Ecuadorian Salt Producers in the Chota-Mira Valley, Ecuador” will take place on April 3rd.

     

    This event is part of a Series of Talks organized by the Latin American Historical Archaeology Lab (Department of Anthropology). 

    Biography

    Dr. Flores’ research focuses on African Diaspora archaeology, particularly the political economy of Afro-descendant and Indigenous peoples in the Andean region of Ecuador. He earned a PhD in anthropology from Binghamton University (SUNY), and his research explores the roles of Afro-descendant and Indigenous communities in economic, cultural, and social transformations, emphasizing resistance, racialization, and systemic marginalization. Dr. Flores highlights the Afro-Ecuadorian contributions to the regional economies and social memory in the Northern Highlands of Ecuador
