The prestigious Honors College at UMass Boston welcomes first-year, currently enrolled, and transfer students who excel academically, thrive on intellectual challenge, and seek to explore the world in unfamiliar ways. 

The Honors College at UMass Boston welcomes first-year, current, and transfer students who aspire academically, thrive on intellectual challenge, and are eager to study complex local and global issues. We invite applications from any student with a minimum GPA of 3.4 at their most recent school (high school or college).

Those who qualify for the Honors College enjoy:

• Interdisciplinary courses that span the sciences, arts, humanities and social sciences—designed by faculty just for honors students
• Small class sizes that foster deep discussions and individual attention
• Development of research skills through senior theses and projects
• Connections to internships, major fellowships, and scholarships

Application and Deadlines

SPRING 2025 Applications to the Honors College are due September 30, 2024

FALL 2025 Applications are due February 24, 2025.

High school students who receive an invitation to join the Honors College with their UMass Boston acceptance letter do not need to apply separately, as the invitation will include instructions on how to confirm a seat in the Honors College. We strongly encourage all high school students with a 3.4 GPA or higher to apply directly to us.

Current UMass Boston students with a 3.4 or greater GPA are encouraged to apply directly anytime up to and including their junior year.

Transfer Students coming from a Commonwealth Honors Program are also encouraged to submit an application: this allows the College to ensure a seamless transition into their Honors experience at UMass Boston.
