Departments purchasing a computer are advised to choose a device meeting the specs listed below. To accommodate periods of remote work, employees are very strongly urged to purchase laptops instead of desktops, which can be used to work from campus or from home. For productivity and ergonomic benefits, purchase a docking adapter to use a larger monitor, keyboard, and mouse instead of those built-in to your laptop.

Apple (MacBook)

Windows (Laptop)

• Operating system: Windows 10 or greater
• Extended warranty is strongly recommended: Prosupport Plus (4 years)

Dell laptops are highly recommended when purchasing Windows-based computers as we have a Dell-certified technician in house for repair services. UMass Boston also offers students discounts on a wide range of computers, laptops, and other electronics through the UMass Dell Student Discounts program.
