About Our Department
The Performing Arts hosts performances in our Recital Hall and University Hall blackbox theater – both boasting state-of-the-art technology -- including our 40-piece UMass Boston Orchestra, Jazz Ensembles, University Choruses, annual Dance Concert, and Theatre Arts productions. Each is open to students of all majors, including backstage opportunities, with auditions at the start of each semester.
Music majors, and minors, engage in a comprehensive education in preparation for careers in music and teaching. Theatre Arts majors, and minors, train in acting, design and technology, directing, theatre history, and playwriting. Dance minors performance and choreographic opportunities, with a focus on understanding dance from historical and world perspectives.
One-on-one music instruction is offered in a range of instruments and voice, at all levels of experience, including beginners, with world-class faculty.
Check out the incredible talent of our Beacons and stay up-to-date on our events with our latest productions and performances.
