Careers
Students graduating from the traditional and accelerated option baccalaureate nursing programs are prepared as a generalist for practice across the lifespan and with diverse populations and in four spheres of practice: promotion of health and well-being/disease prevention; chronic disease care; regenerative or restorative care; and hospice/palliative/supportive care (AACN 2021).
All baccalaureate graduates, are prepared to pursue graduate education. Master’s degree graduates meet the qualifications to seek certification as advanced practice nurse practitioners. Graduates of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program are clinical practitioners with the ability to focus on system and population based health needs, while the PhD graduate focuses on, health policy, and population health.
Scholarships & Aid
There are a wide variety of nursing scholarships for both undergraduate and graduate nursing students. The Theta Alpha Chapter of the International Nursing Honor Society Sigma Theta Tau has a scholarship for students in UMass Boston's baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral programs. Several hospitals and hospital systems support nursing student education through a variety of scholarships such as the academically based Fuld Scholarships or the Clinical Leadership Collaborative for Diversity in Nursing which has both academic and diversity criteria. Annually CNHS distributes a significant number of need-based Disadvantaged Student Scholarships.
Students should watch their emails and the Manning College of Nursing & Health Sciences website for application information.
