Mid-Career Faculty Seminar

 

The Office for Faculty Development is pleased to accept applications for the Mid-Career Faculty Research Seminar to promote progress in research, scholarship and the creative arts among mid-career faculty who feel they would benefit from a community of support on campus. The Mid-Career Faculty Research Seminar will be facilitated by Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Professor Shoshanna Ehrlich.

Prof. Ehrlich will engage a cohort of faculty members in discussions relevant to recharging or redirecting one’s research and the challenge of structuring one’s time for research in a variety of life-work balance contexts.

Goals of Seminar

  • to develop specific research/scholarship/creative work plans for the seminar
  • to make progress implementing them
  • to enjoy the benefits that a community of support can offer in relation to one’s research, writing and creative work
  • to develop a long-range plan for promotion

Seminar Details

  • Eligibility: Applicants should be associate professors who have been tenured for three or more years.
  • Length: 2 semesters, Fall 2020 and Spring 2021
  • Frequency: 3 meetings per semester
  • Time: 2 hour meetings
  • Structure: Varied. Reflective and conversational; informational and action-oriented; always confidential. Seminars will include research presentations with constructive feedback from the group, strategies for increasing research productivity, and opportunities to reflect on your academic career. Seminars may include guest speakers that can provide information and perspective on interdisciplinary and collaborative projects, grant writing strategies, promotion, and/or insight on balancing competing academic demands. The facilitator and participants can co-design meetings to fit the cohort’s interests.
