Application Information
A two-page proposal (no more than 700 words, double-spaced, 12 point font)
describing the project that the funds would support and the relationship of that project to the faculty member's overall professional goals. The proposal must be written so that the committee can understand the type of research the applicant is presenting; that is, the explanation of the research should be comprehensible to someone outside the applicant's discipline. The purpose of the award is to enhance the likelihood of tenure within the applicant's department.
A realistic budget spelling out the amount of funding requested (up to a limit of $4500)
and a
separate paragraph (in addition to the 700 word proposal)
detailing how the requested funds will be used.
Curriculum vitae of no more than two pages.
A one-page letter (no more than 350 words) from the applicant's department chair.
The letter should not be in the form of a recommendation. Rather, it should identify the applicant faculty member's roles and responsibilities, relate the goals of the proposed project to the intellectual life of the department, indicate how this project advances the applicant's prospects for tenure, and include information on when the faculty member will be coming up for tenure.
