Employment
A quality program with quality students needs quality staff. We seek people with a commitment to education for several types of part-time positions.
Academic Year
Staff are hired during the academic year to provide academic support and facilitate after-school programming for participants.
Tutors
Urban Scholars hires tutors to assist students after school during the academic year. These undergraduates, recent graduates, or graduate students play a major role in ensuring that each student experiences an inclusive, safe, and exciting year. Tutors provide 1-on-1 and small group tutoring for our students in the afternoons. If you are interested in becoming an academic year tutor, please complete an application and email it to urbanscholars@umb.edu.
Instructors
Instructors may be hired to teach during the school year, depending on the programming that is scheduled for the semester. Continue to visit our page to learn about teaching opportunities that arise throughout the academic year.
Summer
Staff are hired to facilitate a fun, engaging, and safe learning environment during the 6-week summer institute.
Tutors/Teaching Assistants (TAs)
Each summer, Urban Scholars hires 4-6 summer teaching assistants (TAs). In the mornings, TAs help our lead teachers create a learning environment that maximizes learning. They manage materials and attendance while assisting with lessons, class discussions, and group work. In the afternoons, TAs lead a team of about 20 students in competitions, workshops, college-prep seminars, field trips, and more. We seek candidates from all majors who are committed to our mission and passionate about working with youth. Please review the summer teaching assistant job description for more details, or complete an application and email it to urbanscholars@umb.edu.
Instructors
Instructors teach between ten and fifteen high school students for 60-minute class periods during our Summer Institute. Summer instructors design and lead dynamic, project-based courses that empower students and build essential skills for college and future careers. Interested instructors are invited to propose courses in STEM or other fields. We look to hire instructors who can not only inspire students but also ensure that students steadily build the skills and knowledge base that will allow them to become successful college students. Please review the summer instructor job description for more details and to learn how to apply.
