This course presents theoretical concepts of psychiatric mental health nursing to assist the student in using the nursing process to improve quality of life by meeting the mental health care needs of diverse urban client systems.

In the Synthesis and Capstone course students provide direct care to acutely ill patients and their families while working one on one with a baccalaureate prepared registered nurse staff preceptor.

Students refine their advanced practice skills in primary care with further attention to the application of theory and evidenced based knowledge to the role of the family or adult gerontological nurse practitioner caring for the adult patient.

Students further refine skills in critical thinking and clinical reasoning in the application of theory and research to practice.

Students further refine skills in critical thinking and clinical reasoning. Assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic, and health teaching strategies are applied to a continuum of health promotion / illness problems of women, infants, and children.
